TL;DR

  • Appbot is the analytics pick: NLP sentiment, topics, emotions, custom topics and “Ask Appbot” are live, and it covers more stores.
  • Review Expert is the workflow pick: reply from any plan, route reviews to Slack and Linear (Starter) or Microsoft Teams and Zendesk (Pro) with rating and keyword filters.
  • Seats differ a lot: Appbot Small includes 1 user and Medium 3. Review Expert includes 5 members on Starter, 15 on Pro and unlimited on Enterprise.
  • Where Review Expert is behind: its sentiment is rating-based for now, AI reply drafts and topics are coming soon, and its MCP server is early access while Appbot's is live.

Who should pick which

Choose Appbot if…
  • You want to understand what reviews are about at scale with NLP sentiment, topics and emotions.
  • You need sources beyond the App Store and Google Play, such as the Mac App Store or Microsoft Store.
  • You use Zapier, Freshdesk, Trello or Google Chat for review alerts.
  • You already pay for Large or above and want a live MCP server for your AI agents today.
  • One person handles reviews, so a single-seat plan is fine.
Choose Review Expert if…
  • Several people need access (support, product, engineering) without moving up to a bigger plan just for seats.
  • You want to reply to App Store and Google Play reviews without needing the Large plan.
  • You want reviews to create Linear issues for engineering.
  • You need Google Play review history beyond 7 days (up to 36 months) backfilled from Play Console exports.
  • Rating-based sentiment and dashboards (volume, average rating, distribution, response rate and time) are enough for now.

Integrations and review sources

Appbot lists Slack, Microsoft Teams, Zendesk, Freshdesk, Trello, Zapier, Google Chat and email, and covers the App Store, Google Play, the Mac App Store, Microsoft Store and other sources.

Review Expert has two live sources, the App Store and Google Play, connected through the official APIs with your own credentials. Other sources, including the Microsoft Store, are coming soon. Live destinations are Slack, Linear, Microsoft Teams, Zendesk and webhooks, by plan. Zapier is coming soon. Every destination can filter by minimum rating, maximum rating and keywords. For example, 1–2 star reviews that mention “crash” can go to Linear while everything else goes to a Slack channel.

AI features and MCP

AI is where Appbot is clearly ahead. Its sentiment, topic and emotion classification reads review text, it supports custom topics, and “Ask Appbot” answers questions about your reviews. Auto-replies are on Large. Review Expert's sentiment is based on star rating today. Topic extraction, NLP sentiment and AI reply drafts are coming soon.

Appbot's MCP server is live at api.appbot.co/mcp for Large plans and above, using OAuth sign-in to an existing Appbot account (Appbot MCP). Review Expert's MCP server is early access, not live. The plan is read-only review tools and a sign-up path agents can complete without a sales call. See /mcp.

Review Expert MCP server: early access
Review Expert does not have a live MCP server or public API today. A remote MCP server with read-only review tools is planned; see /mcp to join the waitlist.

Where Appbot is stronger

Appbot is a good product, and in several areas it does more than Review Expert does today:

  • Mature NLP sentiment, topic and emotion analysis (Review Expert's sentiment is rating-based today)
  • More review sources, including Mac App Store and Microsoft Store
  • Zapier, Freshdesk, Trello and Google Chat integrations
  • A live MCP server (Large plan and above)

For balance, here is what some public reviews and pricing trackers mention about Appbot:

  • Replying to reviews and CSV export are on Large (from $166/mo annual)
  • Lower tiers are seat-limited: Small is 1 user, Medium 3
  • Some reviewers find topic tagging imperfect or pricing prohibitive (G2, SpotSaaS)

How to switch from Appbot to Review Expert

  1. 1

    Start a 14-day free trial

Pick the plan that matches your app count and the destinations you need (Slack and Linear on Starter, Microsoft Teams and Zendesk on Pro, webhooks on Enterprise). You can change plans or cancel anytime. See pricing.
  2. 2

    Connect your App Store app

In App Store Connect, create an API key under Users and Access → Integrations and note the Issuer ID, Key ID and the .p8 private key (Apple lets you download it once). Add it in Review Expert under Apps & Businesses. Review Expert syncs your review history through the official App Store Connect API, then checks for new reviews roughly every 5 minutes.
  3. 3

Connect Google Play and your review exports

Connect a Google Play service account for the Developer API. Because that API only returns reviews from about the last week, also point Review Expert at the Play Console review CSV exports in Google Cloud Storage so it can backfill older history. There is no import tool for Appbot data: your history comes straight from Apple and Google.
  4. 4

    Recreate your routing as destinations

In the Review Expert dashboard, open Automation, choose Manage destinations (or Add destination), click Connect next to Slack, Linear, Microsoft Teams or Zendesk and approve access. For webhooks, paste your HTTPS URL. Add minimum rating, maximum rating and keyword filters to mirror the alerts you had in Appbot.
  5. 5

    Invite your team with roles

Under Team, invite colleagues as owner, admin or reviewer. Owners and admins manage apps, destinations and automations; everyone can read and reply to reviews.
  6. 6

Run both tools in parallel for a week

Keep Appbot running while you compare: check that the reviews you expect show up, that your filters send the right ones to the right channels, and that your team is comfortable replying from Review Expert.
  7. 7

    Cancel Appbot

Once you are happy, export anything you want to keep from Appbot (check their documentation for what they allow) and cancel your subscription there.
