AppFollow alternative

Review Expert vs AppFollow

AppFollow is a broad review management and ASO suite. Review Expert is a focused tool for App Store and Google Play reviews: one inbox, replies posted back to the stores, and routing to Slack, Linear, Microsoft Teams and Zendesk on plans from $39/mo. Here is an honest comparison to help you decide.

TL;DR

  • AppFollow does more: many review sources, live AI replies and auto-replies, semantic tagging, ASO tools, a REST API and a live MCP server.
  • Review Expert is narrower and simpler: App Store and Google Play only, with Google Play history beyond 7 days (up to 36 months) from Play Console exports and routing with rating and keyword filters.
  • Pricing: AppFollow's helpdesk integrations start on Essential ($129/mo billed annually). Review Expert includes Slack and Linear on Starter ($39/mo annually) and Microsoft Teams and Zendesk on Pro ($119/mo annually).
  • Not ready yet at Review Expert: AI reply drafts, NLP sentiment and topics, extra sources and Zapier are coming soon; MCP and a public API are early access.

Who should pick which

Choose AppFollow if…
  • You need reviews from more than the two app stores: Steam, Discord, Reddit, Trustpilot, Microsoft, Xbox or Amazon.
  • You want AI-written replies or auto-replies running today, especially at high review volume.
  • ASO (keywords and rankings) and review management should live in the same tool.
  • Your team wants to query reviews from an AI agent right now through a live MCP server or REST API.
  • You have 2 apps or fewer and AppFollow's free plan with 7-day history is enough.
Choose Review Expert if…
  • Your reviews come from the App Store and Google Play, and what you mainly need is to see them, reply and route them.
  • You want reviews to become Linear issues for engineering, not only messages in a chat channel.
  • You want reviews routed to a helpdesk like Zendesk without paying for a $129+/mo plan.
  • You want Google Play review history beyond the last week the Play API returns (up to 36 months from Play Console exports).
  • You want several teammates included: 5 members on Starter, 15 on Pro, unlimited on Enterprise.

Pricing as listed on vendors' public pages as of October 11, 2026; check their site for current pricing.

The two price lists are built differently. AppFollow ranges from a free plan to a $599/mo Team plan (monthly) and custom Enterprise, and adds AI, ASO and extra sources as you go up. Review Expert has three plans that differ by number of apps (2, 4 or 10), team members (5, 15 or unlimited) and destinations.

If you searched for AppFollow pricing because you mainly need reviews turned into helpdesk tickets, compare AppFollow Essential ($129/mo annual) with Review Expert Starter ($39/mo annual) for Slack and Linear, or Pro ($119/mo annual) for Microsoft Teams and Zendesk. PricingSaaS tracks 16 changes to AppFollow's plans, so confirm the current numbers on AppFollow's page before you decide.

Integrations and review sources

AppFollow lists 20+ integrations, including Slack, Zendesk, Microsoft Teams, Telegram, email, Salesforce, Helpshift, Tableau and webhooks. On the source side it covers App Store, Google Play, Steam, Discord, Reddit, Trustpilot and custom sources, with Microsoft, Xbox and Amazon on the Team plan.

Review Expert covers two sources, the App Store and Google Play, through the official Apple and Google APIs with your own credentials. Other sources such as Google Maps, Yelp, Amazon and Microsoft Store are coming soon. Destinations are Slack and Linear on Starter, Microsoft Teams and Zendesk on Pro, and webhooks on Enterprise. Zapier is coming soon. Each destination can filter by minimum rating, maximum rating and keywords.

Linear is the main difference in the other direction. AppFollow's public list focuses on support and analytics tools. Review Expert can open a Linear issue for a review that reports a bug, so it lands in the engineering backlog instead of a support queue.

AI features and MCP

AppFollow's AI is further along. It lists AI replies and auto-replies (Essential and up), translation, sentiment and semantic tags, and anomaly detection on Enterprise. Review Expert's sentiment is based on star rating today (4–5 positive, 3 neutral, 1–2 negative). NLP sentiment, topic extraction and AI reply drafts are coming soon.

On agents: AppFollow's MCP server is live at mcp.appfollow.io/mcp, with Google OAuth or SSO and credit-based usage, plus an open-source AI toolkit for Claude Code and Codex (AppFollow MCP). Review Expert's MCP server is early access, not live. The plan is a remote server with read-only review tools and a sign-up path that agents can complete themselves. Details are on /mcp.

Review Expert MCP server: early access
Review Expert does not have a live MCP server or public API today. A remote MCP server with read-only review tools is planned; see /mcp to join the waitlist.

Where AppFollow is stronger

AppFollow is a good product, and in several areas it does more than Review Expert does today:

  • Many more review sources (Steam, Reddit, Trustpilot, Discord and more)
  • AI reply drafts, auto-replies, translation and semantic tagging are live today
  • ASO tooling (keywords, rankings) that Review Expert does not offer
  • A live MCP server and REST API
  • A free plan for 2 apps

For balance, here is what some public reviews and pricing trackers mention about AppFollow:

  • Helpdesk integrations start on Essential ($129/mo billed annually)
  • Frequent plan and price changes (16 changes tracked by PricingSaaS)
  • Some G2/Capterra reviewers mention cost and setup/filter friction

How to switch from AppFollow to Review Expert

  1. 1

    Start a 14-day free trial

Pick the plan that matches your app count and the destinations you need (Slack and Linear on Starter, Microsoft Teams and Zendesk on Pro, webhooks on Enterprise). You can change plans or cancel anytime. See pricing.
  2. 2

    Connect your App Store app

In App Store Connect, create an API key under Users and Access → Integrations and note the Issuer ID, Key ID and the .p8 private key (Apple lets you download it once). Add it in Review Expert under Apps & Businesses. Review Expert syncs your review history through the official App Store Connect API, then checks for new reviews roughly every 5 minutes.
  3. 3

Connect Google Play and your review exports

Connect a Google Play service account for the Developer API. Because that API only returns reviews from about the last week, also point Review Expert at the Play Console review CSV exports in Google Cloud Storage so it can backfill older history. There is no import tool for AppFollow data: your history comes straight from Apple and Google.
  4. 4

    Recreate your routing as destinations

In the Review Expert dashboard, open Automation, choose Manage destinations (or Add destination), click Connect next to Slack, Linear, Microsoft Teams or Zendesk and approve access. For webhooks, paste your HTTPS URL. Add minimum rating, maximum rating and keyword filters to mirror the alerts you had in AppFollow.
  5. 5

    Invite your team with roles

Under Team, invite colleagues as owner, admin or reviewer. Owners and admins manage apps, destinations and automations; everyone can read and reply to reviews.
  6. 6

Run both tools in parallel for a week

Keep AppFollow running while you compare: check that the reviews you expect show up, that your filters send the right ones to the right channels, and that your team is comfortable replying from Review Expert.
  7. 7

    Cancel AppFollow

Once you are happy, export anything you want to keep from AppFollow (check their documentation for what they allow) and cancel your subscription there.
