How to start monitoring app store reviews
- 1
Connect your App Store app
In App Store Connect, go to Users and Access → Integrations and create an API key. In Review Expert, open Apps & Businesses, add the Issuer ID, Key ID and .p8 file, and choose the app. See App Store setup. - 2
Connect your Google Play app
Create a Google Cloud service account, grant it access in Play Console, and add it under Apps & Businesses. Review Expert can then import older reviews from your Play Console review exports. See Google Play setup. - 3
Let the history sync finish
Review Expert imports your past reviews first. After that, new reviews arrive roughly every 5 minutes. - 4
Add a destination
In the Review Expert dashboard, open Automation, choose Manage destinations (or Add destination), click Connect next to Slack and approve access. Set rating and keyword filters so the channel only gets the reviews you care about.
Google Play review monitoring beyond 7 days
Most lightweight review bots only see what the Google Play Developer API returns. That endpoint only lists reviews created or modified in the last week, and only reviews that include text. If you connect a bot today, you see this week's reviews and nothing before them.
Google does keep older reviews: Play Console writes monthly review reports as CSV files to a Google Cloud Storage bucket tied to your developer account (in Play Console, look under Download reports → Reviews). Review Expert reads those exports (currently the last 36 months) and merges them with the API results. You get one continuous history, so you can see how ratings moved across past releases, not just since the day you signed up.
We wrote a longer guide on this: how to get Google Play reviews older than 7 days.
Why monitor reviews in one place?
App Store Connect and Play Console both show reviews, but they are two separate consoles with different filters and logins. Neither one lets you route a review into Slack or Linear without extra tooling. When reviews only live there, three things tend to happen:
- Regressions surface late. A crash after a release shows up as a run of 1-star reviews days before anyone opens the console.
- Support and product see different data. Support answers what it finds; product guesses from the average rating.
- Replies get missed. Nobody owns the queue, so reviews go unanswered in one store while the other gets attention.
Review Expert keeps one table for both stores and pushes matching reviews into the tools each team already checks. The dashboard then shows whether things are getting better.
