The problem with reading reviews in the consoles
App store reviews are some of the most honest product feedback you get: unprompted, tied to a real version of your app, written right after something went well or badly. But for most product teams they're awkward to use.
- iOS reviews live in App Store Connect and Android reviews in Play Console, each with its own filters and logins.
- The Google Play API only returns about a week of reviews, so long-term trends need manual CSV downloads.
- Feature requests get read once and forgotten because nothing moves them into the backlog.
- Only one or two people ever read reviews, so designers and engineers hear about them second-hand.
Review Expert fixes the plumbing: one inbox, history from both stores, simple dashboards and routing rules. You still decide what the feedback means. That part stays with you.
What product teams use
A post-release review routine
- 1
Connect both stores once
Add your iOS app with an App Store Connect API key and your Android app with a Google Play service account under Apps & Businesses. Older Google Play reviews are backfilled from Play Console exports. - 2
Set up two destinations
In Automation, choose Manage destinations, click Connect next to Linear and approve access. Add keywords such as “please add”, “would love” or a feature name. Add a Slack destination with a maximum rating of 2 so the team sees problems early. - 3
Compare before and after
A week after release, set the dashboard date range to the days since launch and compare average rating, rating distribution and volume with the previous period. - 4
Read the 1–2 star reviews
Filter the table to low ratings and the release window. Look for repeated words (a screen, a flow, a device) and link the strongest reviews to the relevant Linear issue. - 5
Close the loop
When a fix or feature ships, reply to the reviewers who asked for it. On the App Store, customers are notified of your response and may update their review.
What Review Expert doesn't do (yet)
Being clear about limits saves you a trial:
- No automatic topic clustering or NLP sentiment today. Keyword routing and rating filters work now; topic extraction is coming soon.
- No competitor or ASO data. Review Expert only connects apps you publish. If you need keyword rankings or competitor reviews, look at an ASO suite; our comparisons are candid about where others are stronger.
- No public API yet. A read API and an MCP server for AI agents are in early access, so you could eventually ask an assistant to summarize last month's reviews.
Which plan fits a product team?
Most product teams with one iOS and one Android app start on Starter ($49/month, or $39/month billed annually): 2 apps, 5 team members, Slack and Linear. If you have more apps or want support in the loop through Microsoft Teams or Zendesk, Pro ($149, or $119 annually) covers 4 apps and 15 members. See pricing for details.
