Setup guide

Connect Google Play

Review Expert uses a Google Cloud service account to read Google Play reviews through the Google Play Developer API and post replies. You need the Play Console owner account (or an admin who can grant access) and a Google Cloud project.

In Google Cloud Console

  1. 1

    Pick a project

Open Google Cloud Console and select a project, or create one.
  2. 2

    Enable four APIs

Enable the Google Play Android Developer API, Google Cloud APIs, Google Cloud Storage and the Google Cloud Storage JSON API. The storage APIs are needed for review history.
  3. 3

    Create a service account

Go to IAM & Admin → Service accounts, click Create service account, name it (for example Review-Expert), and on the role step choose Basic → Browser. Click Done.
  4. 4

    Create a JSON key

Open the service account's menu, choose Manage keys → Add key → Create new key → JSON. The key file downloads.

In Google Play Console

  1. 1

    Invite the service account

Open Play Console, go to Users and permissions and click Invite new users. Paste the service account's email address.
  2. 2

    Grant two permissions

Enable View app information and download bulk reports (read-only) and Reply to reviews, then click Invite user.

In Review Expert

  1. 1

    Add the app

Open Apps & Businesses, choose Google Play, search for your app and select it.
  2. 2

    Upload the key

Follow the connect screen, upload the JSON key file and confirm you invited the service account.
  3. 3

    Finish

Review Expert checks access and starts the first sync, including review history from Play Console's reports.
Permission error?
If Google Cloud says you don't have permission to set policy on the project (resourcemanager.projects.setIamPolicy), you are not signed in with an account that can manage the project. Sign in as the Play Console owner or ask a project owner.
